The Dezat family is one of the oldest wine-growing families in Sancerre. References to the family can be found in records dating as far back as 1550. André Dezat took over the family vineyards in 1948 and became actively involved in promoting the wines of Sancerre. Today both his sons Louis and Simon work with him, as does two of his grandsons, Arnaud and Firmin. a long-standing Berry Bros. & Rudd supplier, the Dezat family's 38 hectares covers 6 villages in Sancerre, incorporating the key soil types of 'terres blanches' (ancient active limestone), 'caillottes' (stony clay) and 'silex' (flint).
The nose is classic Sancerre, with aromas of citrus, apple and grass, as well as a beguiling smoky note. The palate is relatively rich (owing to a warm vintage) yet fresh, with a long, mineral finish.
