This single barrel rye from Knob Creek was selected by All Star Wine & Spirits for its superb balance and bottled at a rich 110.9 proof. Maturation on the middle floor aids in giving this rye a bit of extra spice, without leaning too much into the more dry tobacco flavors. It drinks very much like a Maryland style rye, with the corn bringing sweetness and body to counter the big spearmint and spice box flavors of the rye grain. The entry is mellow and full of caramel leading into a minty midpalate, with nutmeg and clove lingering in the finish and providing a warming spice at the back of the tongue.
